Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur is a Participating Institute in the ISEA Project-Phase II.


Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur (VNIT Nagpur):

    Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur (abbreviated VNIT Nagpur), also referred to as NIT Nagpur, formerly Regional College of Engineering, Nagpur (REC) and Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering, Nagpur (VRCE), is a premier public engineering and research institution in India. It is located in Nagpur, Maharashtra, in central India. The institute has been consistently ranked among the best fifteen engineering colleges in India. It was established in June 1960 by the Government of Indiaand later named in honor of engineer, planner and statesman, Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.

    VNIT Nagpur is centrally-funded and belongs to the National Institutes of Technology (NIT) system. In 2007, the institute was conferred the status ofInstitute of National Importance (INI) alongside other NITs and IITs by an Act of Parliament of India. The institute awards bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees in engineering, technology and architecture.


Under ISEA Project Phase-II, forty (40) institutes have been identified as Participating Institutes to offer various formal and non-formal courses in the area of Information Security. These institutes are further sub divided in three categories viz. Category I, II & III (Special Category).
Participating Institutes (Category -I): 23 academic institutes would introduce information security curriculum at B.Tech and M.Tech level course. Besides this, some of these institutes would be encouraged to launch integrated B.Tech / M.Tech (IS/CS with specialization in IS). 
Participating Institutes (Category -II): 12 centres i.e. 6 centres each of C-DAC & NIELIT would introduce have introduced 6 month/1-year PG Diploma, short term knowledge oriented courses and three level certification programs in Information Security.
Participating Institutes (Special Category): 5 Technical Universities have been added to broaden the reach of ISEA Project Phase II to a large category of engineering students enrolled through various private engineering colleges affiliated to these technical universities. These universities with suitable hand holding by ISRDC/RCs are expected to promote information security courses not only in their own units but also in their affiliated engineering colleges across the St
ate. These technical universities would also conduct faculty training programs for the faculties of their affiliated engineering colleges.
